COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN DIVISION ON VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS PRESENTS 2010 AWARDS AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN NASHVILLE DIVISION ON VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS EXEMPLY ADVOCATE AWARD
The Council for Exceptional Children, Division on Visual Impairments (DVI) is proud to present the Exemplary Advocate Award to The American Printing House for the Blind (APH) at the Council for Exceptional Children Convention and Expo in Nashville, Tennessee on April 22, 2010. The Exemplary Advocate Award honors a person who has done something of significance to promote the quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired. The American Printing House for the Blind’s presence in the field of blindness and visual impairment is irrevocably embedded in the annals of history as “the world’s largest provider of accessible educational and daily living products with over 150 years of service” advocating for persons who are blind or visually impaired in a wide variety of ways. APH is a leader in providing professional development materials and training nationwide; seeking the expertise of leaders in the field to effectively share up-to-date best practice information, techniques, and materials with the entire field. APH is also eager to share much of their information freely online, and they continually seek feedback from the field. Not only does APH seek to promote best practice by providing research, equipment, materials and training, but also by celebrating the accomplishments of leaders in the field of blindness and visual impairments with their Hall of Fame for Leaders and Legends of the Blindness Field. Although APH is not a single person, it is an organization comprised of outstanding individuals who serve in a collaborative effort with Dr. Tuck Tinsley, President of the American Printing House for the Blind. The Exemplary Advocate Award plaque was proudly accepted by APH Vice President Bob Brasher on behalf of Dr. Tinsley.
