COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN DIVISION ON VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS PRESENTS 2005 AWARDS AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN BALTIMORE

DIVISION ON VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

 

The Council for Exception al Children Division on Visual Impairments is proud to present the Teacher of the Year Award to Keely Hipp at the International Conference in Baltimore on April 7, 2005 .  Kelly Hipp is teacher in North Carolina at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind. 

The Teacher of the Year Award honors a person who is exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and a skilled certified Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist in any state approved or accredited day or residential school, who serves students who are visually impaired, ages birth through 21, with or without additional disabilities.  

            Kelly Hipp is a teacher as well as an art instructor for children who are visually impaired in the state of North Carolina .  She has been in this profession less than five years.  The art from her classes are exhibited with the CEC-DVI International Helen Keller Art Show.

Her peers nominated Keely because she inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues and builds on the knowledge base of the profession.  Keely received this prestigious award for her diligent work as an advocate for children with visual impairments and for being a mentor to other professionals in the field.  Keely is known for being innovative and creative in her teaching as an art instructor and as a teacher for children with vision loss.
