The Council for Exceptional Children, Division on Visual Impairments is proud to present the Teacher of the Year Award to Barbara Johnson at the Council for Exceptional Children Convention and Expo in Seattle, Washington on April 2, 2009. Mrs. Johnson is a teacher of students with visual impairments in Alabama.
The Teacher of the Year Award honors a person who is exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and a skilled, certified Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist in any state approved or accredited day or specialized school, who serves students who are visually impaired, ages birth through 21, with or without additional disabilities.
Mrs. Johnson is recognized for her contributions to the field of special education and her dedication to her students. Her colleagues nominated her because she is an advocate for her students and has developed a relationship with the children and parents that truly changed the course of their lives. She is held in high esteem by her fellow coworkers, her students, and the parents of her students and serves as a mentor for other teachers. Mrs. Johnson received this prestigious award for her commitment to the future of her students by setting the highest standards of educational quality.
