The Council for Exception al Children Division on Visual Impairments is proud to present the Exemplary Advocate Award to Peter Sullivan and Neal Kuniansky at the International Conference in Boston on April 3, 2008.  The Exemplary Advocate Award honors persons who have done something of significance to promote the quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired.

Peter Sullivan and Neal Kuniansky received this prestigious award for the continued support of teachers and other professionals in the field of blindness over the past years.  Peter and Neal wrote and promoted the freeware program Perky Duck that made it possible for university Braille instructors to teach Braille in online/distance learning programs.  They provide ongoing support at no charge to the student, nor to the university program.  The use of Perky Duck has been instrumental in the preparation of quality teachers for children with visual impairment. Peter and Neal are playing a direct role in connecting the dots and in helping us to prepare more qualified Braille teachers.
