DIVISION ON VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The Council for Exception al Children Division on Visual Impairments (DVI) is proud to present the Distinguished Service Award to Dr. Stuart Wittenstein at the International Conference in Salt Lake City on April 6, 2006 .  Mr. Wittenstein is from California , and is President of the California School for the Blind. 

The Distinguished Service Award is presented to a DVI member who provides exemplary leadership and commitment to the field.   Dr. Wittenstein received this prestigious award for his diligent work as advocate to persons with blindness, deafblindness and multiple disabilities.  His contributions to his profession have been broad-based and immeasurable.  

As an administrator in the field of blindness, Dr. Wittenstein has been the catalyst for state-of-the-art programming for children with visual impairment and academic programming for children who have vision loss.  Dr. Wittenstein has published articles and recently authored a new book on the assessment of children with visual impairment.  He has served DVI in many roles including President.

 Stuart Wittenstein is a teacher, a leader, and an advocate.  He is considered one of the best administrators in the field of blindness, has mentored many leaders and is a recognized leader in the field.
